The derelict Cattle Market site near the railway station could be in for a new lease of life. Permission for a development has been granted recently by the councils planning committee.
Cllr. Jill Simpson-Vince, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for growth and investment, said in a council press release: “The cattle market site is a key regeneration site that can enhance the whole station area with the right development. Located on the edge of the town centre and just 100m from the station, it is probably the most sustainable site in Rugby for high-intensity development such as the four blocks that have been proposed. And with no other build-to-rent housing within Rugby it provides a valuable contribution to our unmet housing need."
The plans include 360 apartments which will be mainly marketed to young professionals who could take advantage of the railway station close by.
Cllr. David Cranham, member of the committee said: “This is a derelict site in desperate need of regeneration, It is also a constrained site and I think the architect should pat himself on the back - he’s done a very good job.”
