A draft document outlining how the Coton Park East development site should be designed has been published for consultation.
The Supplementary Planning Document is a requirement of the Rugby Borough Local Plan 2011-31 and explains what factors developers will need to take into account before submitting a planning application for the 800 home and 7.5 Ha employment site, which is located to the north of the town adjacent to the M6.
The document lays out indicative locations for open space, access, play areas, schools, primary roads and other features, demonstrating the council’s requirement for the site to be considered as a whole allocation rather than separate development sites. It requires a developer to provide a comprehensive green infrastructure network, transport infrastructure both on and off site, and public transport and cycling and walking facilities.
Cllr. Jill Simpson-Vince, local councillor and portfolio holder for Growth and Investment, said, “Having a Local Plan in place means that we can use documents such as this one to masterplan new communities, to make sure that existing and future residents of the borough will have the facilities they need to be strong and vibrant neighbourhoods."
In a joint statement on their Facebook page (Coton & Boughton Councillors), Cllrs Seb Lowe, Carolyn Robbins and Jill Simpson-Vince said, "We will be delivering letters with more information about this over the next week or so, but we want as many residents as possible to respond to this as it includes the provision for a new secondary school in the north of Rugby. We know we need this school and have worked hard to make it happen, we now need you to confirm this."
