Conservative led Rugby Borough Council commissioned Warwickshire Pride to research the views and experiences of members of the LGBT+ community in Rugby Town. The online survey took place late last year and revealed that hate crime against members of the LGBT+ communities was higher than the national average.
Council Leader, Councillor Seb Lowe said, "Like all members here of all parties, I was horrified and alarmed to discover that the level of hate crime against the LGBT+ community in Rugby was greater than the national average. I therefore wholeheartedly welcome the decision of this council to agree an action plan with Warwickshire Pride and EQuIP to help address these issues."
"As the report shows, we have been exploring and working on a number of initiatives to enable members of the LGBT+ community who live and work in this borough to feel safe and welcome, both through external initiatives with partner organisations, and through member and officer training here at the town hall."
Councillor Lowe concluded, "It is entirely right and proper that members of the LGBT+ community here in Rugby feel safe, valued, and supported, and I invite members to join me in endorsing this report on this basis."
