Carolyn Watson-Merret talks about the importance of local volunteering, "I volunteer each year on various projects and this year was a clearance of section on the beautiful walkways of Ashlawn Cuttings which was overgrown with bramble, gorse & invasive plants. Litter picking was a big part of the clearance which included a ladies team clearing the kerbsides all the way up Ashlawn Road from the Cremation entrance to the school on both sides of the road."
"It was a combined effort with Rugby Wildlife Trust and their team of dedication workers who have put hundreds of hours into this project over many seasons to enhance the beauty and diversity of Rugby’s wildlife on Ashlawn Cuttings which is a favourite walk for families and dog walkers every day of the year."
The above project was run by Sewa - where people come together to experience the joy of giving. The idea is to perform an act of kindness without expectation of reward. As a concept, Sewa in embedded in Indian traditions, and is actively promoted by different cultures and faiths – as the core belief is the same – to sacrifice your time and resources for the benefit of others without expectation of anything in return.
