Construction of a brand new, £2.3 million health centre in Brownsover, Rugby, is due to start this month, after plans were approved by the NHS.
The development will provide a 624-square metre GP surgery, and a 100-sqm community facility as well as parking and landscaping with construction due to be complete by the end of 2018. The ground floor of the surgery includes five consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, two group rooms, an interview room as well as reception and waiting area while staff facilities will be located on a second floor above part of the building.
Although linked to the GP surgery building, the community facility will be owned and run independently by Rugby Borough Council.
Cllr. Emma Crane, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for communities and homes, said: “NHS England’s plans promise to deliver a much-needed GP surgery and valuable community space to Brownsover, and I’m really pleased construction work on the project will be starting in the New Year.”
Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby, said: “Residents in Brownsover have been incredibly patient since the closure of their previous local surgery in early 2015. The provision of a new surgery is long overdue but this firm commitment from the health authorities that work will commence in January, and will be completed by the end of next year, is very welcome. I will continue to work closely with Brownsover Patient Action Group and the NHS to ensure that this project is delivered as is now anticipated and that there are no further delays.”
