West Midlands Conservative MEP, Philip Bradbourn, has welcomed the addition of five new state of the art fire fighting vehicles at Birmingham Airport. Visiting the airport Mr. Bradbourn said he was impressed with the technology behind the new vehicles and praised the airport for its commitment to safety.
The airport has invested more than £3 million on the new vehicles to replace its current fleet. Three of the vehicles are able to penetrate an aircraft fuselage allowing close and direct access in the event of an incident. The remaining vehicles specialise in applying foam and water and can deliver up to 7,000 litres per minute.
Birmingham is the first UK airport to benefit from the vehicles and at least three vehicles will be operational at any given time.
Speaking after his visit to the site Philip Bradbourn said:
“Birmingham Airport is a real asset to the local area and it is vitally important to our economy that it succeeds. Having recently announced plans to expand in the future I am delighted that the airport is taking its safety commitments so seriously. The airport has made an investment of £3m in these new vehicles and I am extremely impressed with the technology involved. The vehicles will make an excellent addition to existing safety features at the airport.”
