West Midlands Conservative MEP Anthea McIntyre has again called for a referendum to decide on Britain’s future relationship with Europe.
Speaking at a meeting at Ross Conservative Club organised by members of the Archenfield Branch of the local Conservative Association, Miss McIntyre also spoke of her role as a member of the European Parliament and particularly focussed on her work on the Employment and Agriculture Committees.
“Earlier this month the European Parliament adopted a major report I have written examining ways to support the horticulture industry and to help it develop."
“Horticulture – the growing of fruits and vegetables of all kinds – is of huge importance to Herefordshire and I was delighted to, for the first time ever, present the European Parliament with a single report looking at both the challenges and opportunities for this crucial sector.” said Miss McIntyre."
“On the employment committee, I have fought hard to ensure that the needs of small and micro businesses are, at last, fully recognised and the potential impact of all new regulations will now be considered at the outset so that additional burdens are avoided whenever possible. This change should lead to the removal of many burdensome regulations that had the sole effect of destroying innovation and jobs.”
Miss McIntyre went on to say: “Europe needs to change. Britain’s relationship with the EU isn’t working. It needs fundamental change.
“The Conservatives have already delivered change in Europe by cutting the budget – reducing the cost of the EU to Britain; by vetoing a new EU treaty – stopping more powers going to Brussels; and by refusing to bailout the euro – saving British taxpayers’ money.
“Now want to go further. Britain needs a clear In/Out referendum.
“The plan is clear - we will negotiate a better deal for Britain in Europe then give the British people their say in an in-out referendum by the end of 2017.
“Only the Conservatives will give you that referendum. Labour and the Lib Dems won’t and UKIP can’t.”
