Residents living in the Newbold area of Rugby are set to benefit from a massive 100% increase in spending on much needed traffic calming measures, thanks to the efforts of the areas Conservative County Councillors, Helen Walton and Carolyn Robbins.
Original plans to spend £30,000 on traffic calming along Newbold Road and Main Street, will now be doubled to £60,000 and will also include improvements to the grass verges at Avon Valley School and will see car parking arrangements revamped outside the shops in Newbold.
Explaining the increase in spending, Cllrs Carolyn Robbins and Helen Walton said “Earlier in the year, we had planned to split the money allocated to us, and make improvements to another area within our division, however after consulting local people with one of our regular Residents’ Surveys it became evident that it was a far better to pool the funding and get a proper job, rather than split it and end up seeing only part of the work done.
“We are both firm believers in listening to the concerns and needs of the people we represent. In doing so, we can make sure that pubic money isn’t wasted in areas where there are no traffic problems. Where as in Newbold, local residents have had to endure road safety problems for years and we know this huge increase in spending, is wanted and will be welcomed by everyone who lives there.”
“Newbold will soon become a safer and better place to live. But it is important that local people have their say on the different traffic calming options available as there is little point in spending money on schemes which do not have full local support, so we would encourage all residents of Newbold to attend the local Community Forum at 7pm on 18 September at Warwickshire College in Technology Drive.”
