Why Peter is the local choice for Dunsmore
Peter explains, "I have lived in Warwickshire for over 20 years. Married to Zoe, we live in Dunchurch with our two young children Rory (12) and Zara (7) who attend local schools. I served the first 10 years of my working career as an Electronics Officer in the navy. Following my navy career I entered an electronic engineering career ashore. I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation and currently own a technology business servicing the highways and other parts of the transportation industry across the United Kingdom. During the last 7 years I have been heavily involved in the activities of Dunchurch, Parish Council where I have been proud to serve as Chair for 5 years. In my spare time I like to attend live theatre; go walking in the countryside with my wife and children or support the numerous after -school activities that the children partake in."
My Priorities for us in this ward
MAINTAINING OUR COMMUNITIES
"Our rich and diverse countryside must be sustained. All new development needs to be right for the area and support the needs of the local community. The Local Plan dictates that we must build new homes in the area, particularly affordable housing, but it is imperative that these homes must be situated in the right place with the right amenities. I will battle to protect the architectural heritage and open spaces in our communities and ensure that new development contributes positively to the character of our villages in terms of the existing scale, location, design and layout. I will continue to resist inappropriate development such as the DB Symmetry site at Thurlaston."
IMPROVING RURAL POLICING
"There is an awareness that rural crime has increased. In rural areas crime is significantly under-reported. It is slowly being recognised that rural areas, often isolated and sparsely populated with limited access to support services need an appropriate policing approach. I will battle to bring focus on this issue with a view to seeking improved funding for rural policing in our ward."
TACKLING SOCIAL ISOLATION AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT
"We must work to improve local care and public transport in our rural communities. There are an increased number of residents in our villages who rely on public transport to access healthcare, purchase food, education and to socialise. Rural communities are currently facing unprecedented transportation challenges with the bus companies reducing services. Accessible and affordable transport is a priority and I will work with Parish Councils, Warwickshire County Council and other organisations to improved public transport throughout, our rural communities. The accessibility of reliable and affordable transportation is paramount to sustain village life."
