Councillor Emma Crane, RBC's portfolio holder for Communities and Homes announced at a recent Council meeting that the Conservative administration supports a reduction in rent for Council tenants and a reduction of their weekly service charges. This announcement came during Cllr. Cranes speech on the Housing Revenue Draft Budget, she explained, “This follows a review of service charges with cost savings arising from digitalisation and the redevelopment of Biart Place, I’m pleased I can pass on the reductions to some of our most venerable residents.”
Cllr. Crane went on to talk about the Government scrapping the local authority borrowing cap, which will allow Rugby Borough Council to rise their borrowing limit and therefore allow the Council to borrow to fund redevelopment projects to bring more social housing into the town. She then concluded with more good news for tenants, announcing proposals for bathroom replacements and heating upgrades as well as thanking officers for their work on the draft budget.
The Conservative Housing Revenue draft budget was unanimously supported in the Council chamber.
