A Conservative proposal for Rugby Borough Council to create its own lottery to support local good causes has been unanimously passed by Council, at the meeting held last December, which means now it will be consulted upon fully. The Cabinet report states the lottery could serve 'as a means to help support the local community and voluntary sector organizations with extra funding'.
Councillor Michael Stokes said, “Community and voluntary groups are doing fantastic work in our Town. Unfortunately there is only so much funding to go around and, with other sources of funding shrinking, it is inevitable that some groups miss out. A Local run Lottery will be a great way for local groups to generate a regular income as well as giving players a chance to win prizes."
