Planning permission has been approved for 98 apartments to be built on the former Gas Works site on Newbold Road.
The land has been un-used for sometime and had previously been a drive in hand car wash. The gas works closed on the conversion to natural gas in 1970 and eventually demolished in 1984.
As reported in local press, committee planning member and former Mayor of Rugby Cllr. Belinda Garcia said, “It is about time the town was tidied up and as this as part of the entrance to the town then it will make it look a lot better.”
Admirals and Cawston Councillor Peter Butlin, “We are not going to get the perfect solution and will have to compromise if we are to get anything at all on this site - it has been derelict for a considerable time.”
